The second I saw the Mac Mini I thought home theater, now this might have something to do with having home theater on the brain 24/7 but regardless, I knew I wanted one. Since then I’ve been studying these things for hours on end, so much in fact my other site wasn’t getting the attention it deserved, so with that I decided to start machtpc.com. I asked Jonathan Greene (of atmasphere.net) to join me here for several reasons, one he has considerably more knowledge about Mac’s than I do, and two he’s just a damn nice guy. Anyway that’s enough glad-handing.
What we intended to do with this site is explore the Mac Mini as a home entertainment system, not just a small form factor PC. Obviously this will include peripherals as they are necessary for full HTPC capability (the digital audio out problem for example) and if and when Apple launches a ‘full fledged’ media center appliance we’ll be all over like white on rice.
Oh a word about the sites name, I know some Mac fans don’t take kindly to the ‘PC’ moniker but lets face it folks this is by and large uncharted territory for Apple. Windows has dominated that sector of the PC market since its inception, and will likely continue to do so. I think the HTPC descriptor is something that won’t go away regardless of the software platform used (the Linux HTPC’s for example). I’m really looking forward to my Mac Mini (whenever it arrives) So with that Cheers.
