Mac Mini ordered

hourglassWell my Mac Mini transformed from saved cart to final transaction this morning, it’s odd I don’t really remember that last time I was ‘excited’ about a new computer purchase, it’s been years. And as I’ve never owned a new Mac (just second hand G3’s) I’m looking forward to it all the more. Here is what I purchased and how I configured it, but more importantly why.

Mac mini 1.42GHz

56K v.92 Modem
Combo Drive
512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 DIMM

To be blunt there was no way in HEdoubleL I was going to throw another 475 bones on Job’s desk for 1GB on memory, so I went with the 512MB for a paltry 75.00 more. Which brings up a good point, there seems to have been some confusion as to whether the Mac Mini is user up-gradable. According to Henry Norr of MacInTouch “Apple “does not recommend” that users upgrade the memory themselves - you’re supposed to have a service provider do it if you want to add more after purchase - but doing it yourself does not void the warranty”, damn good news if you ask me, and that’s likely what I’ll do when / if the time comes.

Secondly the only media I want to record to is a hard-drive, no Super-Drive for me. Heck the CD’s and DVD’s I’ve burnt and listened to twice have their own wing at the local landfill. Ditto for the wireless keyboard, I think I’ve got a crusty old Logitech around here somewhere. I didn’t opt for Bluetooth or Built-in wireless either, if the Bluetooth bites me I’ll buy one of these, hey I’m a cheapskate and loading up a sub 2ghz computer with ‘extras’ just wasn’t in the cards. As to the internal AirPort Extreme card, again I skipped this one, I’ve got a hard wired LAN connection at the intended location, and unless I missed something the Mini doesn’t include a battery or monitor, so it’s unlikely I’ll miss not adding wireless to my Mac Mini. So there you go, that how I configured mine, I’d love to hear the how’s and whys of your configurations.
