Miglia EvolutionTV
Miglia announced the EvolutionTV DVR today which is a USB based hardware encoder/decoder for your Mac. The EvolutionTV bundles the TitanTV guide within the experience which in theory should give it a leg up on Elgato’s EyeTV which uses the browser for the main guide. When released lated this month, you’ll be able to schedule programming directly in iCal, and record directly to MPEG2, MPEG4 or DIVX.
This looks like a great product and seems to directly compete with the EyeTV 200… choice is good!

Looks very cool. Do you know of a place to preorder here in the united states? I checked several sites but couldn’t find details on this product yet.

I don’t … though Miglia.com would be a good place to start. I’ll have a review unit soon so I’ll be able to give you a more complete report.

I want a review unit as well… have them send two!

I’ll be interested to see how you think their software stacks up to elgato’s. EyeTV and EvolutionTV both have TitanTV integrated into their systems. They both can encode into MPEG 2 and MPEG 4.
For me, the only aspect of EyeTV that keeps me from adopting it in my own living room is its inability to control my cable box.
BTW, is there a solution to that problem I haven’t found yet?

The main difference (in theory for now) is that the TitanTV guide is integrated. EyeTV uses a browser to view the guide which is not integrated but certainly part of how their system works. It makes it much more computer oriented than couch surfing though…
There is currently no way to control your cable box… I know Elgato is well aware of that limitation and working on it.
I’m not sure how the EvolutionTV will do it either… BTW - EvolutionTV can record directly to DIVX which the current EyeTV systems cannot.

Has Jonathan received the test unit yet, and if so, do we have any review details we can share yet? Inquiring minds want to know…

Not yet… hoping for a surprise one day soon.

Hi,
Just a comment that there is now a way to control your cable box with EyeTV’s software (which also can be used with the Miglie hardware). I have developed a helper app called “iEye Captain” that lets you use the ZephIR or IRtrans USB infrared devices to control a cable box or satellite, among about 30 other features.
Please visit: http://www.vidcan.com/Software/iEyeCaptain.html
Thanks.
