Updated Sonica Theater USB drivers
M-Audio recently updated the driver for the Sonica Theater USB, of which I know many of you have (that and the Sonica Transit). I can honestly say that with 10.3.9 I finally beat my DTS demons, but if you’re still having problems, the updated drivers claim a DTS fix among the list of improvements.
– Now supports OpenAL and discrete Multi-Channel up to 7.1
– Added new surround modes: “Stereo x 2”, “Stereo x 3”, and “5.1 Expansion”.
– When the surround mode is set to “None/OpenAL”, audio applications can now output directly to all the available speakers.
– Updated the user interface to make it more consistent.
– Added an Uninstaller.
– Fixed a system crash that could occur when switching between speaker sets.
– Fixed DTS digital playback with Mac OS 10.3 Apple DVD Player.
Better late than never I guess. While searching for the driver wont (as yet) pull up any results, it is listed at the top of the “latest Updates” page.

OK, now I can FINALLY get serious about purchasing a DTS solution for my Mac Mini. I am just wondering how well it will work in the 10.4 DVD Player.

Finally!! Going to install now and see whether it solves some of my issues as well…

I have the Sonica, not the Sonica Theater. I just installed Tiger tonight.
10.4 completely fails to recognize that it’s even connected! 🙁
So this product just went from “barely usable” to “worthless.”
Anybody have any luck getting the Theater to run with Tiger?

My Sonica Theater works with Tiger, DD, DTS, iTunes the whole bit.
I didnt upgrade to those new drivers, maybe try rolling back to an older version.

Sounds like Sonica Theater owners have lucked out.
I had to go back to 10.3.9 to get the Sonica USB to work at all.
I’d trade it in for the Sonica Theater, but I hate giving more money to M-Audio to reward them for not properly supporting the product I already have.

The Sonica USB does not work in Tiger. The driver is not compatible with Tiger’s new kernel extension model. M-Audio is working on updates, so stay tuned.

I have the Sonica Theater and Tiger…i updated the m-audio drivers and it fixed my problems for about a day. I still get that wretched sound about 50% of the time. I think i may try to roll back to the previous drivers…but this idea makes little sense to me. Waiting for the tiger update for the Sonica Stinkeater and hopefully i will have a working product at that point. Never buying m-audio again.
